Our Substance Abuse Prevention Program uses the evidence-based model Botvin’s LifeSkills Training (LST), a proven method to teach students in Broward County schools how to avoid drug and alcohol use. LST covers topics such as decision-making, coping with stress, and resisting peer pressure. Young people can gain practical life skills, emotional intelligence, and the ability to resist negative influences that can lead to substance abuse.

LST is a 10-15 week evidence-based and research-informed program designed to help young people address the social and psychological factors that can lead to substance use and other risky behaviors.

The program uses a variety of fun and engaging activities to help youth build skills and develop resiliency, including group discussions and structured activities. LST also offers parenting classes to help you support your child’s growth and development.

This program is provided year-round in public schools, or at nearby community-based sites during the summer.
