Just last summer, Ahmaud Arbery was a Black man who was unjustly killed due to racial bias. But this week we are heartened by the guilty verdicts of the three white men who took his life.
Nothing will repair the loss Ahmaud’s family felt, but his death is a needed reminder of how much work needs to be done to dismantle the depth of racial inequity embedded in our society.
Let these guilty verdicts be a glimpse of hope for the future and a lesson on what accountability looks like when our criminal justice system works as it is supposed to.
We know this comes at a bitter time when just last week Kyle Rittenhouse was acquitted of all charges, but we are relieved to know that when things are the most grim, people can still step up and do the right thing.
In solidarity,
